The Dublin Pride Festival will burst onto the streets of Dublin this Saturday the 24th of June. The parade will begin on O’Connell Street at noon and make its way to Merrion Square.
This year's Pride Parade holds a particularly meaningful message, as it marks many significant milestones in the history of LGBTQ+ activism in Ireland.
This year’s theme encompasses the sorrow we draw from the past, the empowerment it promises for our future as well as a celebration of progress and hope.
The theme, “Protest, remember, celebrate”, shows us the value of looking to the past to experience a profound sense of Queer pride. This idea creates an atmosphere of honour and homage this pride month.
50 years ago, in 1973 was when Ireland's very first LGBTQ+ activist group The Sexual Liberation Movement formed. The group was established in Trinity College, where they embarked upon the inspirational mission of securing their rights and place in Irish society.
This group was the beginning of what is now a flourishing scene of acceptance, love, and compassion.
